An ancient motion picture

I know this is a forum for books mainly, but I think there might be room for just one little movie.

It was shot on top of a cable car going down Market Street in San Francisco a few years before the 1906 Great Quake and Fire. No traffic lights or stop signs, muddy roads, horses, and the occasional keystone cop, coolie, or corseted lady. You can see the Ferry Building in the distance, which is one of the few structures amongst the scenery that survives.

I love this film; it's a lense into the past.

That's amazing footage! The music is pretty cool as well. I loved the guy on the right saying hello to the camera, that's rather sweet considering he's been long dead, I bet he had no idea he would end up in a thing called internet Smile

Nice. I liked the music too- very chilled.

The video reminded me of the nightscreen from one of the Austrian/German TV channels while I was over there a while back.... when all the programmes had finished for the night, they used to play footage filmed from the front of a locomotive train as it progressed on its journey. It used to play for literally hours, but like this video, the sound was edited. Kinda hypnotic too... I think the idea was to lull the viewer off to sleep.
